Male breast reduction or gynecomastia is a form of cosmetic surgery currently being conducted by highly professional Iranian plastic surgeons. In this cosmetic surgery, a man’s large breasts are reduced to their preferred size, shape, and appearance and therefore improves the chest contours. Gynecomastia normally has undesirable psychological impacts on boys and men; the most common among them, loss of self-confidence.

What causes gynecomastia?

·        Genetics

·        Hormonal imbalance

·        Drugs and alcohol

·        Obesity

·        Psychological complexes

As we know, testosterone is the male sex hormone, and estrogen the female sex hormone. As the amount of testosterone hormones in a male body gets imbalanced, it affects different areas in the body. One of the areas that can get affected by this hormonal imbalance, is the breasts (mammary gland). Gynecomastia usually happens at puberty or old age, although it can be genetic and therefore, existent since birth. This hormonal imbalance mostly causes the increase in the size of one or both breasts in men. When happening to one breast it is called uni, and when on both breasts bilateral gynecomastia.

Male breast reduction: procedure

Before the Gynecomastia Surgery, a complete assessment of the patient, which may include breast ultrasounds is needed. Following the thorough body assessments, there will consultation sessions with the surgeon, so that the patient can know what to expect from the surgery.

Once the reason for the enlarged breasts has been diagnosed, and the growth of the breasts has stabilized, the doctor can perform the proper procedure. The excess part can be removed through an incision made around the areola (the dark skinned area around the nipple). The surgical procedure is normally liposuction.

The surgery will be performed under general anesthesia and will last from 1.30 to 2 hours for both breasts. There will be now or one night of hospitalization depending on the type of surgical procedure. The stitches are absorbable and the pain will be very mild and that the patient can resume professional physical activities after around 15 days. The patient is able to see the final and well-developed result after around three months.
