Breast augmentation or augmentation mammaplasty is a plastic surgery to increase breast size. Breast Augmentation Surgery is one of the most popular and favored types of plastic surgery these days.
Who needs breast augmentation surgery?
Breasts are one of the important parts of a woman's body. If somebody is unsatisfied with her breasts it may have negative effects on her confidence or body-image. In addition, maybe clothes do not fit the body well just because of this problem, something that can be easily solved by this plastic surgery.
A lot of factors can affect the size or shape of the breast, such as:
· Weight gain or loss
Unquestionably, there are some women who without having the factors above, would prefer to have larger or better-shaped breasts. Therefore, getting breast implants can help them have their ideal appearance and most probably improves their self-confidence.
Breast implants: Salin or silicone?
There are two main types of implants that you can get. Silicone and saline.
ü Saline implants
These breast implants are made of a silicone rubber shell and are filled with sterile saline solution (salt water). They are filled in the operating room, so they can be modified, in terms of their size and shape.
ü Silicone implants
Silicone implants, as their name suggests, have silicone gel, and they are like tissue breasts, and they even move like tissue breasts. Gel implants are prefilled, and they can't be modified in size in the operating room.
Both these types of silicons have their own benefits. The patients as an example have reported that silicone implants look more natural over time. On the other hand for saline implants, smaller incisions are required.
In terms of the shape of implants, there are two types: teardrop and round. The decision for the shape is to be made utterly by the patient. The plastic surgeon, however, can make some suggestions in this regard, according to a patient’s weight, chest contour, and body type.
Breast augmentation: the scars
Four following options can happen:
· Underneath the breasts (Inframammary)
· In the navel
· Near the armpit (Transaxillary)
· Around the nipple (Periareolar)
Generally, the surgery’s type of scars depends on many factors like the surgeon’s technique, type of implant, how much extension is involved, and the patient’s anatomy.
After the breast augmentation surgery, the patient should be able to go home after 2 or 4 hours on the same day, wearing a postsurgical bra. If it is needed the doctor may prescribe painkillers for a couple of days. Before resuming the regular daily activities, it would be recommended for the patients to rest for a few days.
